A calm and gentle C-section

**Shared with consent** This is the beautiful birth story of my friend's, and client's little boy Jude, a must read if you are planning a caesarean birth for your baby. Rebecca and Matt understood all of their options and made decisions that were right for their family, such a beautiful story about how they brought their baby into the world calmly.

Well done guys, you absolutely smashed it and baby Jude is so gorgeous.

Thank you for your kind comments. Hypnobirthing isn't just about home or natural birth it's about finding the right path for you.

...When we found out we were pregnant with our second baby, we knew we wanted a different birth experience to that of our first baby. As a diabetic we had been given an induction with our first boy at 38 weeks and had seen no reason to question the medical advice from our team of Drs and midwives. Unfortunately we had a fairly traumatic birth and dreamed of a ‘natural’ birth the second time round. When the Drs said again that it is not advisable to go past 38 weeks pregnant and that they would induce our labour we knew we needed to look at different options.

My Mum had delivered both me and my brother via c section and after witnessing my last birth had suggested we go down this route. The thought of a c section made us both initially nervous so we decided to book onto Katy’s Hypno-birthing Course and find out more about the different options available to us and about how different relaxation techniques could help us in achieving the calm birth that we wanted.

Katy taught us all about ‘Gentle C Sections’ and how we could incorporate hypno-birthing into a theatre setting. She suggested research based books for us to read about inductions and pointed us in the directions of positive birth stories from both c sections and inductions. After a lot of discussion, research and soul searching we decided to ask the Obstetrician for an elective section and were met with a really positive response. Upon mentioning that we had been doing hypno-birthing, our obstetrician became quite excited and began to talk about all the different aspects of hypno-birthing that we could include (all the things that we had discussed with Katy). We knew we had made the right decision when she also said she would do the surgery herself.

The morning of our surgery arrived. We were nervous and excited. We had shared a lovely meal the night before, listened to some meditations and I had been showered with gifts that morning from my husband and son. We arrived at hospital and were greeted by a lovely midwife. We explained that we wanted the atmosphere to be kept quite light hearted and found that we laughed and joked with the staff right until the last moments before theatre.

Once I had been prepped for surgery and Matt was by my side the surgery began. The lights were dimmed, our music was playing and Jude was born within 10 minutes. The drapes were partially lowered so we could see him being born and thanks to the amazing anaesthetist who was able to place all monitoring devices on my back and leg, we also enjoyed immediate skin to and delayed cord clamping. It was calm, peaceful and truly perfect! Matt and I shared some lovely first moments with Jude before being taken to recovery where Jude fed straight away.

We were told by several people following our surgery, how lovely it had been in theatre with the lights dimmed and our music playing and it truly was an experience we shall remember forever, and this time for all the right reasons.
